At the end of the 19th century, Paris became an international capital of all things cultural. Numerous American students and artists came here to practise their art. At that time, Claude Monet chose to settle in Giverny, close to Paris. He enjoyed the sweet landscapes the peculiar lighting of this countryside area.

Following the Impressionist trend, some artists made a habit to stay in Giverny, especially in Hôtel Baudy. They discovered painting outside, in the open, and Impressionist literature.
